UNDG is one of the three pillars of the UN Chief Executives Board (CEB), which furthers coordination and cooperation on a wide range of substantive and management issues facing UN System organizations. The CEB brings the executive heads of UN organizations together on a regular basis under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General. 

As one of the three pillars of the CEB, UNDG will coordinate the approach to operational activities at country level, and complement the work of the High Level Committee on Programme (HLCP) on system-wide policy and programme issues, and the High Level Committee on Management (HLCM) on system-wide management and administrative issues. It will support the UN Development System to achieve greater impact through working together more effectively at country level in support of national development priorities.
 
This will be achieved by: 

1.       Development of measures aimed at improving strategic and operational coherence at country level, including appropriate policies, guidelines and procedures to ensure the continued effectiveness of the UN system at country level,
2.       Development of policies and procedures for the management of the RC System, and
3.       Through the UNDG Advisory Group, provision of guidance to Administrator of UNDP/Chair of the UNDG on the management of the Resident Coordinator System on behalf of the UN System.

UNDG will work with the other two pillars of the CEB to develop the workplan for the implementation of the Triennial Comprehensive Policy Review (TCPR) every three years; the UNDG will develop its more detailed workplan on an annual basis.

The Chairs, and secretariats of, the UNDG, HLCM and HLCP will regularly meet to review their respective workplans, making adjustments as necessary to ensure complementarity and avoid duplication.
