The Food and Agriculture Organization was established on the 16th of October in 1945. The FAO's mission is to defeat world hunger, provide high quality food and raise levels of nutrition while boosting food production by improving agricultural productivity. The FAO is comprised of one hundred and ninety one Member Nations along with two associate members and the European Union, which is a member Organization.

The Food and Agriculture Organization relocated its headquarters to offices in Rome in 1951, from Washington DC. In addition the FAO has offices in more than one hundred and thirty countries.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

The International Fund for Agricultural Development was established in 1977 as an international financial institution. IFAD was one of the most important outcomes of the World Food Conference held in 1974. IFAD's mission is to help eradicate poverty in developing countries and increase access to financial services, land and natural resources to rural poor people.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development works with both government and non-governmental organizations to develop finance programs to reduce poverty and increase food production.

The World Food Programme (WFP)

The World Food Programme was established in 1961 as the United Nations food aid organization. The World Food Programmes' mission is to provide food to people in need and is the largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger in the world. The WFP also aims to save, restore and rebuild lives after emergencies along with strengthening the capacity of countries to reduce hunger themselves.

The World Food Programme is entirely funded through voluntary donations.
