The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)
The United Nations Environment Program was established in 1972 and its mission is to coordinate the environmental activities of the UN globally. UNEP aims to assist developing countries implement environmentally sound practices and policies and covers a wide range of issues regarding terrestrial and marine ecosystems, the atmosphere, environmental governance and green economy.
The six priority areas that the United Nations Environment Program focuses on are:

The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-HABITAT)
The United Nations Human Settlements Program was established in 1978. The mission of UN-HABITAT is to promote and ensure environmentally and socially sustainable settlements, cities and towns and provide satisfactory shelter for everyone.
The United Nations Human Settlements Program aims to work with local communities and policy makers to ensure lasting solutions for urban issues, social inclusion, water sanitation and infrastructure, disaster and risk management, housing and land, financing shelter, urban economy and human settlements.
The United Nations Human Settlements Program focuses on four strategies:
- Analysis of information
- Financing
- Advocacy of global norms
- Field testing of solutions
These strategies are promoted through capacity building, policy development, research and monitoring, financing for housing and urban development.
